Learners should be a minimum of 18 years old and have a moderate level of fitness due to the physical nature of this course

INTRODUCTION

This course is designed for those who may be required to use an abrasive or diamond wheel in the workplace or require familiarisation with the associated regulations.

OVERVIEW

The Safe Selection & Use of Abrasive Wheels on Portable Machines course will provide learners with an understanding of the hazards associated with the use of abrasive wheels. It will also teach learners how to comply with the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations (PUWER) in the safe mounting of abrasive wheels and discs on portable machinery. This course will also include a practical session on the safe use of cutting discs on angle grinders and cut off saws.

By the end of this course, learners will gain an understanding of:

  • Legal requirements and responsibilities
  • Nature of hazards and identification of causes
  • How to ensure a safe work area
  • How to select the correct machinery and personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Method of marking, storing, handling and transporting
  • Storage, checking and use of discs
  • Machine checks
  • Safe use of cutting tools using wheel type 1, 27, 41 & 42

What equipment will I require?
