ENTRY REQUIREMENTS / WHO SHOULD ATTEND

Learners should be a minimum of 18 years old and have a moderate level of fitness due to the physical nature of this course.

INTRODUCTION

This Cable Avoidance (Cat and Genny) course will provide both operators and supervisors with the skills and knowledge needed to carry out cable avoidance and excavation work.

WHAT’S COVERED/PROGRAMME SESSION INCLUDES:

By the end of the course, delegates will gain and understanding of:

  • Identifying potential risks to themselves and others
  • Reading and understanding site plans
  • Operating cable avoidance tools in order to avoid or locate underground apparatus
  • Safely excavating around buried cables & utilities
  • Understanding regulations & guidance in relation to cable avoidance and safe excavation
  • Introduction to HSG 47/HSG185
  • Basic principles of location and avoidance of underground services
  • Soil stability
  • Supporting Trenches
  • Safe digging practices
  • Working at height around excavations

Learning is a very personal journey and our courses can be a big step for some people, so we’ll never make comparisons between learners. Whether you take one course or five courses, our most important goal is to ensure our training helps every learner to reach their goals.
What will I get from the course?
We hope each course will provide you with the knowledge and skills to succeed in that particular area. Some of our courses are Lantra accredited, meaning you will receive a Lantra certificate upon completion.

What equipment will I require?
We supply most of the tools, equipment and basic PPE that you’ll need. All students are required to bring their own site safety boots, but we will send you all the relevant information and requirements when your booking is confirmed.
