ENTRY REQUIREMENTS / WHO SHOULD ATTEND
Learners should be a minimum of 18 years old, and have a moderate level of fitness due to the physical nature of this course. This course is suited to those who have some experience in the landscape industry, and are looking to learn new skills, improve upon existing skills or bring their experience in line with new industry standards.

Our 1-day Excavator (Under 10T) Experience training course is ideal for those who are looking to gain experience in driving and handling excavators. Our experience day is a great way to build confidence prior to taking an excavator test.

This 1-day course provides essential information and knowledge in relation to the handling and operating of excavators, and can be taken repeatedly to gain confidence prior to taking an excavator test.

This 1-day training programme combines theory and practical training to ensure the learner has a full understanding of machinery. The attendee will gain:
- A comprehensive knowledge of health & safety requirements for the machinery
- An understanding of how to identify the basic construction and components
- An understanding of the purpose and use of all controls and gauges
- An understanding of how to identify and comply with manufacturer’s instructions in accordance with the operator’s handbook, other information sources and applicable legislation
- Knowledge of how to carry out all pre-operating and running checks.
- An understanding of how to start, stop and park machinery safely.
- Knowledge of how to transport the machine over varying types of terrain including rough undulating ground and substantial inclines.
- Skills in how to manoeuvre the excavator in confined areas.
- Skills in how to set the machine to excavate.
- Skills in how to operate the machine, including changing attachments
- Skills in how to excavate below ground level on a variety of ground types
- Skills in how to place spoil into various sizes of vehicles/hoppers.
- Skills in how to grade, spread and level different types of terrain.
- Skills in how to load off a stock pile safely
- Knowledge of site safety
