INTRODUCTION
Our 4-day Introduction to Professional Landscaping course is for aspiring landscapers and those with little to no experience in the landscape industry. If you are looking to learn, increase confidence, gain an understanding of industry standards and develop a career in this diverse and exciting industry, then this course will help you get started. All training on specifications and guidelines meets industry recommendations and BSI standards.

Here at the Landscape Academy, this 4-day course combines theory and practical training to ensure all of our students throughout Chester, Manchester, Liverpool and beyond gain a full and well-rounded education. This course will cover:
- The basics of the landscape industry and the opportunities that this diverse sector has to offer
- The health and safety requirements for any site, including how to identify potential hazards and ensure the safety of yourself and others
- How to select the correct materials, tools and equipment for potential projects
- How to undertake a site survey and all the considerations required when planning landscaping projects
- How to work with measurements, scales, levels, gradients, site variations and how to overcome difficult obstacles you may find on a site
- How and where to survey to enable smooth and successful project builds, including the importance of baselines and offsets
- How to assess and survey sites, including techniques to cover all circumstances and environments
- How to competently operate site survey equipment, including the use of traditional techniques, automatic levels (dumpy levels), rotating levels (laser levels) and altimeter levels (zip levels)
- How to produce a competent site survey plan for pricing and project construction, as well as how to set a proposed landscape scheme in preparation for construction
- Working with setting out points, datums, baselines and levels to achieve accurate planning and progression of the construction phase including dealing with site features and regular and irregular forms
- How to calculate the areas, volumes and quantities for excavation
- The sub-base requirements needed to meet industry standards including excavation, waste and sub-base construction methods, as well as hints and tips from our experienced team of tutors
- How to prepare mortar mixes ready for the installation of paving
- How to effectively install large areas of unbound (MOT) compacted sub-base
- Hands-on training throughout the week to provide learners with real-world practical experience that can be utilised when on site
